This is a law in the United States that makes the use of stealing one’s identity with the intention of handling criminal activities a felony. A person who breaks this law will have to serve at least two years in prison with the penalty being even higher for any terrorist-related actions that could be handled.
Most states will work with their own different identity theft laws. In some cases identity theft will be seen in one area as a felony while in others it will be interpreted as a misdemeanor. It helps to check one’s area to see what identity theft laws are in place to see what one will be dealing with.
Don’t forget that in many cases the level of the crime will become greater in the event that the amount of money that was handled in a certain state is higher. For instance, in Connecticut identity theft that involves ten thousand or more dollars is a Class B felony while a theft with five to ten thousand dollars involved is a Class C felony that is lower in intensity but still severe.
